The question, “Is 7000 lumens good for a projector?” is one that depends on a number of things. Yes, 7000 lumens is great for a projector but, do you really need one that bright. The reason 7000 lumens is considered great is because it will be able to work in most ambient light settings – meaning that no matter how bright the room is the projector will still be able to outshine whatever it’s going up against.

If you’re planning on buying projectors for use in daylight then 7,000 lumens is great.
For uses on things such as outdoor gaming, movies, or projection mapping, uses that require high levels of brightness, a projector with 7,000 lumens is a great option.
If you aren’t planning on using a projector for any of those reasons (or for anything similar) then you probably don’t need one that is that bright.
Using a projector that has a brightness rating of 3000 ANSI lumens will work just fine for gaming (non commercial), and home movies and not to mention that you will be able to save money using a projector with a lower brightness rating.
Consider the cost
Typically, 7000 lumen projectors cost around $3000 while 3,000 ANSI lumen projectors cost around $700. Do you see that difference?
It’s up to you though, what do you need the projector for? If you want to buy a projector with a 7,000 lumen brightness rating then go ahead. But, why would you if you don’t have to?
So, is a brightness rating of 7000 ANSI lumens good for a projector?
Yes, 7,000 lumens is great for a standard projector, but it isn’t necessary if you plan on using it in places without too much ambient light (or for everyday uses such as gaming in dark places, home theaters, camping, or for students).
They do, however, work great in places with high levels of ambient light or outside while the sun is still out.
If you want to geta projector for use in an outdoor movie setting then yes, a 7,000 lumen projector works great.
If you’re planning on using a projector in a commercial environment, 7,000 lumens is too low and you will need to opt for a laser projector with between 17,000 and 40,000 lumen brightness ratings.
